Can a child reach B2 in fewer than six years? In some cases, yes. Students with strong language aptitude, previous exposure to English, consistent study habits and the readiness to cope with a more intensive pace may progress more quickly.

This should, however, be an individual educational decision—not a general promise made to every family.

What does “Lower” mean?

In Greece, “Lower” is commonly used for B2-level qualifications such as Cambridge B2 First or Michigan ECCE.

The examination selected may influence the focus and length of the final preparation period. It does not change the fundamental aim: students must develop meaningful ability across reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Why does the timeframe vary?

A child’s progress depends on several factors:

• age and learning readiness,
• previous exposure to English,
• attendance and study habits,
• confidence and classroom participation,
• ability to manage a more intensive programme.

Students who already have a strong foundation may be placed at a higher level following an assessment. Suitable summer programmes may also allow some learners to progress more quickly.

Why is finishing sooner not always better?

During the first years of primary school, children are still learning to read, write and understand basic language structures in their first language. Creative exposure to English can be extremely valuable, but structured instruction should develop alongside their cognitive and linguistic maturity.

Moving through material too quickly or beginning examination preparation prematurely can leave gaps in a child’s knowledge. It may also turn language learning into a source of pressure rather than curiosity and confidence.

The complete ACCESS pathway from A Junior to B2 consists of eight levels. This does not mean that every student must spend eight full academic years completing it. Previous knowledge, carefully selected fast-track programmes and individual progress can shorten the journey.

Our objective is not simply for children to obtain a certificate as early as possible. It is for them to reach B2 with secure foundations, practical communication skills and the confidence to use English beyond the examination room.
